What is a MCPD?

If you are developing .NET Framework applications that use Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 or Visual Studio 2008, the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) and Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) credentials provide a simpler and more targeted framework to showcase your technical skills in addition to the skills that are required for specific developer job roles.

The Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) credential highlights your job role, featuring your specific area of expertise.  Now you can easily distinguish yourself as an expert in Windows development, Web application development or enterprise applications development.  There are six MCPD certification paths:

How to Obtain a MCPD Certification

The Microsoft Certified Professional Developer: Web Developer 4 certification demonstrates that developers have the comprehensive skills that are required to build interactive, data-driven web applications using Visual Studio 2010 for both intranet and Internet uses.

MCPD: Web Developer 4 candidates must first complete the requirements for the MCTS: .NET Framework 4 ADO .NET Accessing Data, Windows Communication Foundation Development and Web Applications Development credentials (three exams).  After earning this certification, candidates may earn their MCPD: Web Developer 4 by passing the required PRO exam.

MCPD: ASP.NET Developer 3.5 candidates must first complete the requirements for the MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ASP.NET Applications credential (two exams).  After earning this certification, candidates may earn their MCPD: ASP.NET Developer 3.5 by passing the required exam.

F1 has two suggested routes for this certification, depending on how much experience the student has using ASP .NET as a development tool.

The route below is suitable for developers who have a little programming knowledge using Visual Basic or C#, but have very little or no ASP .NET experience.
