Pro-ACTION FAQ

Details of "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQ) dealing with common problems.

Q1: Is there a program to help convert Pro-ACTION telephone numbers affected by the changes to UK telephone codes?

UK telephone codes affected will need to be converted before Saturday 22nd April 2000. There is a program available from F1 to assist with this which will be shipped to all supported users. If you haven't had your copy yet, please contact the support desk on 01225 427285.

Q2: My Browse window displays codes instead of Contact details. How do I rectify this ?

The problem is due to corruption in the user's files for Pro-ACTION preferences. The files need to be deleted as follows. Log off Pro-ACTION and search in File Manager for the USER subdirectory. Look for the user subdirectory corresponding to the User's login ID. Delete the files F1_SESS.DBF, F1_SESS.FPT, F1_USER.DBF, F1_USER.FPT and PA_USET.MEM. The user should now be able to log in and view the Browse Windows correctly.

Q3: I'm running Pro-ACTION on a PC workstation connected to a Novell server and I get one of the following messages when logging on to Pro-ACTION:
Alias "COMPANY" not found, Too many files open, Problems opening datafiles
Why are there insufficient file handles ?

Check that your CONFIG.SYS file contains the following setting for FILES:
FILES=150
The Novell configuration file NET.CFG or SHELL.CFG should contain the line:
FILE HANDLES=104

Q4: After a power cut to the network the message

"Not a table / dbf" or "Memo file missing/ invalid" appears when I try to log on to Pro-ACTION.

The likely cause is if one or more of the Pro-ACTION datafiles were not saved correctly before the server went down. For example, if a file header or an index has not been updated with changes prior to exiting Pro-ACTION then there may be a difficulty opening the file the next occasion a user tries to log in. The files concerned can usually be identified and corrected by running the Pro-ACTION Utilities Program. Before you run the program you should ensure that you have a recent backup of your Pro-ACTION Data. If you have not got a backup of your Pro-ACTION DATA directory take one now.

To run the Pro-ACTION Utilities Program, double click on the icon in Program Manager or choose the Run menu option from the File Menu (Start Menu in Windows 95) and type X:\PRO3\PA_UTIL.EXE. Choose the menu item  'Check Data Dictionary' from the Task Menu. The program will check the structure and integrity of every file. If a file cannot be opened and the message "Not a table / dbf"      or "Memo file missing/ invalid" appears then make a note of the file name and press <OK>.

When the check is complete a text file DD_CHECK.TXT is created which you may print out. Close the text file window and then run Foxfix from the Task Menu. This will repair the file header or memo field of the files affected. Finally index each of the files which were affected from the Index and Pack option under the Task menu.

Q5: First user can login to Pro-ACTION successfully but when a second user attempts to start Pro-ACTION, the screen appears to freeze when PC is connected to Novell server. Novell is using NLMs.

Check that you are using current versions of NLMs for Novell. There was a problem reported with version 1.2b of Novell's NLM and you should replace these with the lates available from Novell.

Q6: The message Insufficient Memory appears when trying to open a screen in Pro-ACTION.

Check the GDI Resources available to Windows. From Program Manager choose the "Help about Program Manager" menu option. If System Resources are below 35% then you need to close one or more applications to free up some memory. The problem may be due to devices or fonts which are no longer necessary but are still specified in the Windows system file WIN.INI. If you are running Windows 3.1x then consider upgrading to Windows 95 as this has better memory management capabilities.

If you still have problems please complete the Technical Support form         and email or fax it to us.
