Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Organisations of all sizes around the world are becoming more aware
of the benefits of socially responsible policies, for their employees,
their customers, their suppliers, and the wider world. F1
Computing Systems Limited is committed to the policies listed below,
that help us have a positive impact on our local and global community.
Organisational Quality
F1 is committed to a high standard of quality and service for our employees, customers, partners
and suppliers.
We aim not to simply attain the same standard with each new project, but to learn
from and surpass it.
ISO 9001 Accreditation
Following an assessment by an independent body, F1 has been awarded
ISO 9001 certification. This prestigious award is recognised
workd-wide as a standard for quality management.
Government-supported ISO 9001 has only been achieved by about 5% of
UK businesses, and nows that those organisations have processes in
place to meet customer requirements.
F1 has always been proud of the service we offer our clients, and
now this has been confirmed by outside experts who are used to judging
business standards on a daily basis.
The scope of our ISO 9001 certification extends to "the provision of
Microsoft training and certification courses". In the near
future, we hope to broaden this scope to the business solutions/CRM
area of F1.
Microsoft Partnership
As a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner for Learning Solutions, F1
has documented all
of our quality procedures and are also subject to a continual
independent audit process.
Each of our course delegates completes a comprehensive evaluation form which is
monitored by both F1 and Microsoft. This is a tool to discover
and improve upon any quality issues and to
ensure that the delegate receives appropriate post course support and
guidance.
Partnerships and Supplier Relationships
F1 values the relationships we have with our suppliers and partner
companies, and endeavour to maintain goodwill by using their services
regularly, paying them on time, and providing feedback and
communication.
We also try to build relationships with like-minded companies that
meet our standards for corporate responsibility.
Heather Bonsall, F1's Quality Manager, is responsible for the
Organisational Quality on a
day to day basis.

The Environment
Over the years F1 has taken several steps to implement good environmental
practices. These include:
-
Providing bicycles tax-free to employees
to encourage more environmental commuting.
-
Aiming for a 100% recycling target on paper, cardboard, cans, plastic &
glass bottles.
-
Encouraging our customers to save paper whilst using our web site by
ensuring that all key web pages have an alternative 2 page PDF document
for printing.
As a relatively small company the impact of our environmental activities
are small, but a joint effort with other like-minded companies could have
a significant impact on the environment and the way we all work and live.
Recycling
There are major concerns about the processes involved in the manufacture
of paper because of the impact on the environment. The issue is a complex
one and involves the life cycle analysis of the many stages in the
production and use of paper. F1 is sourcing paper that has the FSC label,
which uses a around 70% recycled paper and 25%
virgin pulp from sustainable forests. All of our office paper is also
recycled after use.
All cardboard, cans, plastic and glass is recycled by F1 staff. All
training rooms have recycling bins to demonstrate the importance of recycling to
F1. We encourage our customers to use our recycling facilities and
our suppliers to have a recycling policy.
Energy Efficiency
Whether you believe in the threat of global warming or not, the indisputable
fact that the world has a finite amount of fossil fuel (which we use for most of
our energy production) cannot be ignored. We are all responsible, either
at home or at work, to try and limit our consumption of energy.
F1 is continually assessing energy bills and consumption values to see if our
usage is excessive, and we endeavour to find new ways to improve our efficiency.
Examples of this are:
- We have recently replaced the old boiler in our Bath office for a more
efficient one, which has a digital timer and an anti-scaling device.
- Lights are turned off in any rooms that are not being used.
- All of our PCs have energy efficient LCD screens, and where possible,
PCs are turned off at night.
PC Equipment
Because of the trend for replacing PCs every 3 years, there is now a growing
mountain of obsolete computers and monitors across the world. F1 source new PC
equipment
from suppliers who have a proven record of waste management and have
demonstrated utilisation of recycled materials. Where possible, older PCs
are donated to schools or charity organisations.
F1 also recycles all the toner cartridges from our printers.
Reducing F1's Impact
F1 is actively encouraging our customers to accept the replacement of
paper based marketing information with increased use of new technology;
environmentally friendly use of communication media such as email
newsletters, web-based product flyers and encouraging the access of
information directly on our web site.
Len
Fawcett, F1's Environmental Officer, oversees compliance with our
environmental aims on a day to day basis.
Charity and Community Involvement
Sourcing Locally
Where possible, F1 tries to reduce our carbon-footprint by sourcing products
locally, be that stationery, furniture, tradespeople or anything else. We
also use local businesses to provide lunches for course delegates.
Local Projects
F1 employees are involved in a number of local community projects. These
include tree planting & hedgerow management and the Stepping Stones City
Farm in Stepney.
