The instructor computer requires the following hardware and software configuration.

Hardware

The following hardware is required for the instructor computer:

  • Pentium 133 processor
  • 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM
  • 2-gigabyte (GB) hard disk
  • CD-ROM drive
  • Network adapter

  • Microsoft® SQL Server version 7.0 Beta 3 (on the SQL Server 7.0 Beta 3 compact disc)
  • Microsoft® PowerPoint® Viewer (on the Trainer Materials compact disc)
  • Microsoft® Word Viewer (on the Trainer Materials compact disc)
  • Microsoft® Internet Explorer version 4.01 (on the SQL Server 7.0 Beta 3 compact disc)
    1.

Student Computer

Each student computer requires the following hardware and software configuration.

Hardware

The following hardware is required for each student computer:

  • Pentium 133 processor
  • 64 MB of RAM
  • 2-GB hard disk
  • CD-ROM drive
  • Network adapter
  • SVGA monitor
  • Internet access
  • Sound card with amplified speakers
  • Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

Classroom Configuration

The following configuration and naming conventions are used throughout this course and are required for the hands-on labs:

  • The instructor computer is named Instructorx (where x is a number that is unique to the intranet).
  • Each student computer is named Serverx (where x is a unique number for each server on the intranet).
  • Each domain is named Domainx (where x is a number that is unique to the intranet).
  • The password for both the Windows NT administrator account and the sa SQL Server account on the instructor computer is pass833.
    1.

The classroom setup script assumes that the instructor computer name is "Instructor833." If the name is different, follow the instructions in this setup guide to edit files to reflect the correct computer name.

If your classroom is on an intranet, make sure that the numbers that you assign to each student computer, instructor computer, domain, and so on are unique. By providing unique numbers for these, you will avoid inadvertently causing naming conflicts.
