What are the future options for existing Windows Desktop Developers?
As
you may be aware, Microsoft currently has no plans to release a Windows
Desktop Applications course or certification, and that doesn’t look
likely to change. Instead they are focusing wholeheartedly on Windows
Store Apps and Web Apps while phasing out windows forms for WPF
(Windows Presentation Foundation).
Love it or hate, this is how it is. This leaves the current generation
of Windows Desktop developers with two options; hold onto your current
Windows Desktop Applications skills and integrate them with Visual
Studio 2012, or move across to Microsoft’s Web Applications and HTML5.
Either way, we at F1 are doing our best to cover you through these
changes with regularly scheduled Visual Studio courses every month, and
heavily discounted Web Apps certification.
Alternatively, if you’re looking to stick with developing Desktop
Applications whilst upgrading your skills to Visual Studio 2012, we
recommend both:
·
Developing Windows Applications with
Microsoft Visual Studio specifying
VS 2012 image option when you order.
· Fundamentals
of XAML and Microsoft Expression Blend specifying
VS 2012 image option when you order
So
whether you are moving to Windows store or HTML5, or just updating your
WPF and XAML skills with Visual Studio 2012, with so many fantastic
offers, now is the time to step up and explore the great potential of
all these innovative technologies.

F1 Newsflash – Microsoft’s
latest MCSD Certifications & new mobile site
Step up to the next
level of Microsoft Certification in 2013
Obtaining an MCSD
certification and becoming a Microsoft
Certified Solutions Developer is the latest step for anyone looking to
get up to speed with a deeper understanding of both cloud and
on-premise development and
deployment while demonstrating commitment to Microsoft’s latest
technologies. These new certifications are set to supersede many of the
retiring MCPDs, and exemplify the shift in Microsoft’s focus to cloud
based services, so whether you’re an ambitious beginner or a seasoned
developer, it’s time to get a head start on the competition.
Last year an amazing 91 percent of hiring managers consider certification as part of their hiring
criteria.*
While 64 percent of IT hiring
managers rate certifications as having
extremely high or high value in validating the skills and expertise
of job candidates.**
That is why F1 Computing is now
scheduling all the courses you require to attain or upgrade to your
chosen MCSD Certification. Visit our
certification pages for more details on which courses and exams are
included.
Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer
(MCSD) Web Applications
Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer
(MCSD) Application Lifecycle Management
Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer
(MCSD) Windows Store Applications
Please note MCSD Windows Store Applications is intended to supersede
the MCPD Windows Developer 4, and covers how to build and distribute
private and/or on-premise apps/programs using Visual Studio 2012. A
handful of the old MCPD certifications no longer have a retirement date
this year, however over time will decline in value as more companies
move to newer versions of Microsoft’s technologies.
If you have any questions regarding
the new certifications have a look at
Microsoft’s FAQ. Alternatively

F1
Computing’s new mobile website
We at
F1 have been getting stuck in with Microsoft’s free Team Foundation
Services and Visual Studio 2012 in developing our first new mobile
website and are looking to keep you in the loop with our practical
experiences of these latest technologies. Navigate your smartphone to
www.f1comp.co.uk
While still an early
version, the core functionality is built around finding courses and
dates along with maps and directions to our offices, through intuitive
and easy navigation. The TFS Agile Development and Storyboard system
worked great, allowing our designers to accurately outline their
concepts for each page, ready for the development team at regular scrum
meetings, who used the new jQuery mobile toolkit in VS2012 to quickly
turn our designs into a functional reality.
We are currently working
on the screen refresh issue and possible template design improvements
but we would appreciate your feedback of our new site. Please email
comments, questions or suggestions to myself
SamP@f1comp.co.uk and I will pass them on to our web
development team.

Autumn 2010
IS MICROSOFT DYNAMICS CRM ONLINE THE PERFECT RAD
TOOL FOR THE CLOUD?
AVAILABLE IN THE UK FOR THE FIRST TIME AS CRM
ONLINE, MICROSOFT DYNAMICS CRM 2011 IS A WATERSHED PRODUCT THAT WILL
TRANSFORM HOW SOLUTIOSN ARE DEVELOPED IN THE FUTURE.
Microsoft
Dynamics CRM 2011 will be available in the UK as the usual on-premise
version and also for the first time,
CRM Online.
CRM Online is simply CRM 2011 in the cloud, running on servers
in Microsoft’s datacentres.
This amazing product builds on the foundation of earlier versions to
offer a powerful platform
for building line of business applications.
These applications are often referred to as
Extended CRM applications or
xRM Framework applications.
With four main components including the database, user
interface, workflow engine, and reporting engine, the Anything
Relationship Management system (xRM)
is a flexible and scalable solution that will fit any business.
xRM works by extending familiar and scalable technologies such as the
Microsoft Office System, Microsoft Visual Studio, Microsoft .NET
Framework, Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Windows Server with a
point and click, drag and drop, declarative application development
framework. As a result,
organizations can quickly create
and efficiently manage many high performance and scalable business
applications.
CRM Online includes a number of new capabilities that further enable
rapid application development.
These new capabilities in the xRM Application Framework are
centred on developer productivity, power of choice and rich framework
services. Included in these
new features is native integration with the
Windows Azure Platform,
which enables extending and connecting Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011
applications with other cloud based applications and services.
F1 is committed to empowering our customers to use the xRM Application
Framework and build business applications that are specific to their
requirements WITHOUT needing to
outsource the development.
F1 believes that no-one understands your business like you do,
so why hand over the development of core business applications to
someone outside your organisation, when you can easily do it in-house
with xRM?
Contact us today
to start training your power-users in xRM and CRM Online, or request a
FREE 30-day trial of the product.

IS YOUR CRM SYSTEM AS EASY AS YOUR EMAIL?
Don’t let anyone force you to learn some confusing, complicated CRM
system, Microsoft Dynamics CRM works in Microsoft Outlook, the same
place you go for email, contacts and calendar appointments…. Less to
learn, less time wasted, just great productivity.
“..buyers value Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online’s native integration with
Outlook and being able to work within the familiar Microsoft technology
stack.” - Forrester
When choosing a CRM system, if your business uses Microsoft Office
applications including Outlook, the decision to purchase Microsoft
Dynamics CRM 2011 over other CRM systems, such as Salesforce.com, is
simple. Some of the key
benefits are:
-
CRM
2011 is a true Microsoft Outlook application, not just a plug-in,
so it takes full advantage of Outlook functionality.
-
CRM 2011 has a new contextual ribbon for Outlook and browser
clients, delivering a consistent interface.
-
CRM 2011 allows charts, grids, and iFrames to be displayed on a
dashboard, Salesforce.com only offers reports.
-
CRM 2011 allows for unlimited data refreshes, whereas
Salesforce.com limits this.
-
CRM 2011 has a new easy ‘drag and drop’ capability for customising
the interface, so that end-users are empowered.
Others require administrators to do even simple changes.
-
CRM Online has no hidden costs, one version includes everything.
Compare that to extra charges for data storage, mobile
users, customer portals, partner portals and Knowledge Base that
other systems require.
-
CRM Online has a 99.9% uptime,
financially backed SLA, which is not available with Salesforce.com.
“Buyers also like Microsoft Dynamics CRM’s usability, lower price, and
its quick time-to-value compared with traditional CRM applications.” -
Forrester
Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 will be released as CRM Online for the
first time in the UK in the first quarter of 2011, with the on premise
version following shortly afterwards.

THE NEW MICROSOFT PARTNER NETWORK - WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
Microsoft has made a fundamental change to their Partner program.
Instead of a Partner reaching levels of certification (Certified
and Gold Certified) for their company, all Partners are now judged on
their competencies, or specialisms.
So, what does it mean for a potential customer?
The new logo is not just an image update.
It describes what the Partner does, and more importantly what
they do best, so a customer can find the right Partner for their needs.
You will notice F1’s Microsoft Partner logo change at the beginning of
next year.
BUSINESS AGAINST POVERTY
As part of F1’s corporate social responsibility, we are delighted to be
members of Business Against Poverty.
When students on our training courses complete a survey from
Microsoft, and tick the charity box, F1 donates £10 to this worthy
cause.
Business Against Poverty is a community of businesses who have a common
goal of helping to reduce international poverty and to change the lives
of others. F1 feels that we can really amke a difference by
supporting the work of the charity Robin Hood Ministries. For
more information on the valuable work B>P and RHM do, click on the link

Summer 2010
ARE YOU READY FOR THE FUTURE?
“BY 2012, 80% OF FORTUNE 1000 ENTERPRISES WILL BE USING SOME CLOUD
COMPUTING SERVICES, 20% OF BUSINESSES WILL OWN NO IT ASSETS.” - GARTNER.
With so many benefits associated with having virtual technology, more
and more companies are trialling and then migrating part or all of
their systems to the cloud.
Are you ready to take your
company virtual?
Most big-name software brands are now offering products for the cloud,
but Microsoft is leading the way with over 10 years of cloud
experience, resulting in a breadth of software offerings with
enterprise-level capabilities that enable companies to have
flexible deployment choices.
Microsoft has also invested billions of dollars in their DataCenters
around the world, creating a global infrastructure with a commitment to
service and a financially-backed uptime guarantee.
Along with the cost savings
of hardware reduction and the associated power usage, additional
benefits are that expenditure is more predictable as you only pay for what you use,
system management is reduced
with faster deployment, multi-level security and no patching and
maintenance, and productivity is
improved with the latest software versions and anywhere access.
“The bottom line: Early adopters are finding serious benefits, meaning
that cloud computing is real and warrants your scrutiny as a new set of
platforms for business applications” – Forrester.
That all sounds great, but what about all the IT Pros out there – will they still be needed?
Well, yes and no.
Certainly moving to the cloud will mean that companies may require less
networking specialists/server engineers/support personnel etc, but
there will still be networks to maintain and users will still need
support for on-premise PC and mobile device problems.
Being the key to a company’s success, on premise and in the cloud, is
all about being multi-skilled.
Generally, skills already learnt on Windows Server and SQL
Server should be easily transferrable to Windows Azure and SQL Azure in
the cloud. IT Pros should
consider looking at other job roles and consider obtaining further
certification.
Contact us today for advice on which certification will be best for
you.

JUST SOME OF THE NEW MICROSOFT RELEASES
MICROSOFT HAS INVESTED OVER $1 BILLION IN RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
TO BRING YOU NEW PRODUCT RELEASES THIS YEAR. WE ARE PLEASED TO
INTRODUCE A FEW OF THE MORE NOTABLE RELEASES.
It has officially been announced that both Office 2010 and
SharePoint 2010 are to be released on 12th May 2010, with an RTM date
in April.
Microsoft Office 2010 offers rich and powerful new
ways to deliver your best work across PCs, Smartphones and web
browsers. Key features are the co-authoring experience with Word,
PowerPoint, OneNote and Excel (via a web app); the ability to track and
highlight important trends with new data analysis and visualisation
features in Excel; insertion and customisation of videos directly into
a PowerPoint presentation; compression of long email threads into
conversations in Outlook.
Whether deployed on-premise or as a hosted service,
Microsoft SharePoint 2010 helps you cut costs with a unified
infrastructure while allowing you to rapidly respond to your business
needs. Key features of SharePoint 2010 are a new user interface
including the new ribbon, Web Edit, Silverlight Web Part, rich themes,
multiple browser support, Visio Services, SharePoint Designer, Business
Connectivity Services, SharePoint Workspace, and rich media support.
Another change is that Microsoft Project 2010 is now embedded into the
SharePoint application, for increased collaboration opportunities.
Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, the cornerstone of
Microsoft's unified communications solution, is a flexible and reliable
messaging platform that can help you lower your messaging costs by
50-80%, increase productivity with anywhere access and safeguard your
business with protection and compliance capabilities. New
features include integrated email archive and discovery functionality,
user features to battle inbox overload, voice mail management
enhancements and improvements that simplify administration.
Microsoft software developers have improved upon Visual Studio 2008
with an integrated development environment, allowing developers to
complete all coding, modelling, testing, debugging and deployment work
without leaving the Visual Studio 2010 environment.
The release of CRM 5.0/xRM 5.0 (the next generation
Microsoft development platform) is scheduled for the latter part of
this year, and is currently being tested in Beta version. Some of
the new features are the ribbon user interface and a new form display,
data filtering with a single click, additional form customisation, drag
and drop Form Editor, additional security model and team ownership, and
SharePoint integration.
Get familiar with the certifications for these new product releases
by visiting the
F1 certification pages.
